In his 2000 article discussing software and complexity, Bruce Schneier, CTO of BT Counterpane, wrote: "The technology industry is driven by demand for features, for options, for speed. There are no standards for quality or security, and there is no liability for insecure software. Hence, there is no economic incentive to create high quality." What’s more, Schneier ends the paragraph by saying "…unless customers demand higher quality and better security, this will never change." Eight years later, there remains only modest gains in software security–less on the subject of better coding practices, and more on the subject of vulnerability disclosure

Stop svchost.exe from stealing your CPU
The situation is familiar to countless Windows users: You’re in a groove at work, firing off e-mails, crafting documentation, and even blogging on your own personal site during break time, when all of a sudden, something takes over 99 percent of your CPU, slowing it to a virtual standstill. A quick look at the invaluable Process Explorer (or your standard Windows Task Manager) indicates that a process called svchost.exe is using all that CPU. What’s more, there’s one main CPU offender, but multiple versions of Svchost.exe are running in the background. Is it spyware? Hackers? Terrorists?!?!
Although there are historical cases of malware using svchost.exe because of its common presence, it’s most likely just Windows being Windows. Svchost.exe is a generic process name for Windows Services that run from Microsoft DLLs (dynamically linked libraries). Each of those instances of svchost.exe in our process lists actually represents a group of services that each process is managing. With Process Explorer, it’s possible to see which services each process manages, and stop them one by one to learn which is the CPU culprit.
Back in spring of 2007, a major problem arose with a Windows update that caused svchost.exe to use 100 percent of CPU because of an issue with Automatic Updates. In order to rule out that bug, be sure that your Windows machine is fully patched with the most recent updates.
Let’s face it. Few people like going to work, but most of us have to do it. Thanks to the Web and lots and lots of microchips, we can work from almost anywhere these days. But it can still be tedious and unproductive without the right tools. This month’s Living With Technology gives you productivity tips and shows you the best tools to use, plus we look at how Web sites may be affecting boxed software giants like Microsoft. Make your own Valintine’s Cards
If you think you’ve got it tough on Valentine’s Day, consider your poor, humble Download.com editor. My wife’s birthday is on Valentine’s Day We’ve been together long enough that I don’t need to impress her with dozens of roses, buckets of chocolates, and the rest of the conventional commercial holiday paraphernalia. However, a homemade card is always a great way to demonstrate my love.
Creating your own Valentine’s Day cards with commercial design software like Adobe Photoshop or CorelDraw will provide you with a wide array of options for tweaking your images, text, and graphics. Those programs also offer instructional assistance to help you through the process. However, if you’re willing to use a little elbow grease and your imagination, you can create a fantastic Valentine’s Day card using free design software.
For this tutorial, I’m going to use Paint.NET, a top-rated download that offers many of the important features that you’ll find in commercial image editors. GIMP is another excellent free program that actually offers a bit more power in terms of third-party plug-ins and online tutorials, but I find that Paint.NET is an easier program for new users to learn.
Also, I’m going to create a basic Valentine’s Day card that includes an image with overlaid text and the date on the front, and some graphic elements and romantic sentiments on the inside. If you’re the artistic sort and can create your own graphics, more power to you. One good free app for doing so is the vector-illustration software Inskape. I’m artistically incompetent, so I tend to focus on using cool pictures and injecting some wit into my text

Linkin Park is a rock band from Agoura Hills, California. Since their formation in 1996, the band has sold more than fifty million albums and won two Grammy Awards. With their debut album, Hybrid Theory, they achieved their initial mainstream success; the album was certified Diamond by the RIAA in 2005. Their following studio album, Meteora, continued the band’s success, topping the Billboard 200’s album charts in 2003, and was followed by extensive touring and charity work around the world.
Recognized for their adaption of the nu metal genre into a radio-friendly style in Meteora and Hybrid Theory, the band moved away from this and explored a variety of other genres in their latest studio album, Minutes to "Midnight" The album topped the Billboard Charts and had the third best debut week of any album that year. They are also known for their several collaborations, most notably with rapper Jay-Z in their mash-up album "Collision"
The Valentines day is soon to come
Valentine’s Day is a holiday celebrated on February 14. It is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other; sending Valentine’s cards, or gifting candy. It is very common to present flowers on Valentine’s Day. The holiday is named after two among the numerous Early Christian martyrs named Valentine. The day became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.
The day is most closely associated with the mutual exchange of love notes in the form of "valentines." Modern Valentine symbols include the heart-shaped outline and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten notes have largely given way to mass-produced greeting cards. The mid-nineteenth century Valentine’s Day trade was a harbinger of further commercialized holidays in the United States to follow. The U.S. Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately one billion valentines are sent each year worldwide, making the day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year behind Christmas. The association estimates that women purchase approximately 85 percent of all valentines.

Are these times contagious
Ive never been this bored before
Is this the prize Ive waited for
Now with the hours passing
Theres nothing left here to insure
I long to find a messenger
Have I got a long way to run
Have I got a long way to run
Yeah, I run
Is there a cure among us
From this processed sanity
I weaken with each voice that sings
Now, in this world of purchase
Im going to buy back memories
To awaken some old qualities
Have I got a long way to run
Have I got a long way to run
Yeah, I run
Yeah, I run
Have I got a long way
Have I got a long way
Have I got a long way to run
Have I got a long way to run
Yeah, I run (have I got a long way to run)
Yeah, I run (have I got a long way to run)
Yeah, I run (have I got a long way to run)
Yeah, I run (have I got a long way to run)
Note: If you can’t run just sing this song and run as fast as you can.
